Tropical Storm ODETTE (Usagi/TC30/17W/1319)TROPICAL STORM ODETTE (Usagi) is gaining strength as it remains a threat to Northern Luzon. NORTHEASTERN LUZON should keep an eye on the track of ODETTE as it may pose a LANDFALL threat to CAGAYAN and may further intensify... WESTERN LUZON as it may bring in more moisture from the Southwest Monsoon and Cumulative rainfall and its effects may occur for the next 3-5 days. PAGASA has raised STORM SIGNAL NUMBER 1, has been raised over Cagayan, Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands. Meaning these areas will experience winds of 45 to 60 KPH within 36 hours. at 11 am Manila time, TROPICAL STORM ODETTE (Usagi) was last located at 17.6°N, 130.9°E... about 970 km East of Tuguegarao, Cagayan... based on 6 Agency position fixes.... ODETTE (Usagi) has Maximum winds of 70 KPH and gusts reaching 85 KPH, moving WEST/WEST-SOUTHWEST at 9 KPH... Forecast tracks by numerous agencies including computer models are predicting for ODETTE (Usagi) to track generally WEST/WEST-SOUTHWEST in the next 24-48 hours towards NORTH LUZON, with a spread afterwards with some tracking ODETTE (Usagi) towards Batanes/Taiwan and the other for the storm to impact Northern Luzon. Currently, ODETTE (Usagi) is between 2 High Pressure Ridges, one over SE China and the other over the North Pacific. The HPA over China is expected to strengthen and extend eastward, becoming the main steering influence for ODETTE (Usagi), causing the Storm to track WEST. Also ODETTE (Usagi) is in a favorable environment with an Upper Level Low to the east providing exhaust and High Sea temperatures, thus a projection of ODETTE (Usagi) becoming a TYPHOON is expected within 24-48 hours. |
