40 TROPICAL DEPRESSIONS formed in West Pacific
    26 marked as W by JTWC
    14 depressions by JMA alone
of the 40, 21 made it to TROPICAL STORM status.
of the 21, 8 made it to TYPHOON category
of the 8, 4 became SUPER TYPHOONS.

First storm formed April 1, 2011 with the last storm dissipating on New Year's day of 2012.

Super Typhoon SONGDA (Chedeng) was the strongest, reaching 195 kph.

Typhoon NESAT (Pedring) was the most damaging, with estimates reaching 1.24 Billion US Dollars in damage in the Philippines, China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Vietnam.

Tropical Storm WASHI (Sendong) was the killer storm of the year, with 1,257 people perishing in a flash flood in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan Cities in the Philippines.
